The Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) England Local Community Fund is now open for applications.
Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) is a major new electricity transmission project that will play a vital role in strengthening the UK’s energy network.
EGL1 have recently been engaging with local charities and community members to ensure their project responds to local needs. Following this engagement and valuable input from local organisations, they are pleased to announce that the EGL1 England Local Community Fund is now officially open for applications.
The fund has been created to support meaningful and lasting projects in the communities closest to the project in County Durham.
EGL1 is a two-gigawatt high voltage direct current electrical connection being built between Torness in East Lothian, Scotland and Hawthorn Pit in County Durham. EGL1 is designed to unlock Scotland’s renewable energy reserves by scaling up the UK’s capacity to transport clean energy from where it is generated to where it is needed. Once complete, EGL1 has the capacity to deliver enough electricity for two million homes.
